Watercolor Geilen
November 16th, 2009. Categories: Garanos, Illustration, Projects.Jeff Mandell gave a short demo/panel on Painter at the ISCA con, which made me want to play with it, too. (Part of a larger yearning of mine to play with different media again.) So after doing some random scribbles, playing with brushes, I decided to test out the watercolor tools on this sketch of Geilen.
I don’t really like it. The colors are so vivid, much more so than my usual, more muted style, that it seems quite garish to me. This was just a quick study, though, and I didn’t really plan out my colors much before diving in, so that could be part of it. I’m chalking this one up to the learning curve involved in learning new software. ^_^;;
I suppose it might’ve made a difference if I’d taken more than the single painting class that was required by my major in college. I haven’t touched real watercolors since high school.
I’ll keep playing around with Painter, though. There’s plenty of other natural media to imitate. :D
