I Boycott Summer
April 29th, 2009. Categories: Musings. The temperature spiked at about 85 degrees on Thursday when mom and I were driving through Iowa to get to Okoboji. It cooled off the rest of the weekend, but spiked up again on the way back on Sunday and Monday, with it being in the low 80s on Monday when I was driving back to Columbus.
My air conditioning in my car has been on a slow decline since last summer. It was really weak last summer, which made for some unpleasant road trips. With the sun blazing down, my car would be hotter with the windows closed and the A/C on MAX than it would with the window open.
I’m a big girl, and as a result, I sweat. I’ll be able to get my A/C fixed in the next month or so, but I realized I should probably hang up my old grudges and buy a pair of shorts for the summer. So I did; I got a pair of navy blue stretch Bermuda shorts. I used to take the I Don’t Believe in Shorts stance since I’m insecure about my thighs, but these go down to the knee, so it’s not so bad. They’re also close to denim blue, so I can pretend they go with everything like regular jeans.
And just like last fall, when I bought all sorts of sweaters and long-sleeved tops for the colder weather and a heat snap came through, the forecast for the next week wanders around the upper 50s and low 60s with rain and storms.
Fuck you too, Summer. At least I’m trying this year.
