Hello, 2009!

January 3rd, 2009. Categories: Musings.

Well, it’s my first blog post of 2009.  According to my dashboard, I blogged 52 times last year, which averages once a week.  It’s actually a bit more since I didn’t start really blogging until March.  Still, a post a week isn’t too bad.  One of my goals for 2009 is to blog more often, like everyone else and their mothers.

Another goal is to lose weight.  Not strictly dieting, per se, but eating less and getting exersize.  Chris and I will be tackling this together, since we will both benefit from it, and it’s easier to accomplish things like this with someone close by for moral support and peer pressure.  Chris also has a Gazelle-like jogging contraption!

I was thinking of doing the One Hundred Push-ups thing.  Upper body strength is a nice thing to have, or so I hear.  Can’t say I’ve ever had much to speak of.  While this kind of workout isn’t exactly a substitute for a cardio workout, I figure since I’m going to be doing this already, I might as well take the oppurtunity to do this as well, since I’ve been interested it in for several months.

I might be going to New York City in February.  My sister and a friend of ours have their birthdays within days of each other in February, so the past few years they’ve started taking trips here and there.  I haven’t been to NYC since Easter of 2003, when I went with my family and we visited Ground Zero.  Kind of a downer trip, and we didn’t get a chance to do much besides that.  I really want to go to MoMA and the Natural History Museum.  There are also talks of seeing some shows.  Should be exciting!  Since I’m not going to Katsucon, I can budget that money towards New York instead.

It’s a little disappointing that my next convention isn’t until March.  As annoyed as I might be with a certain Ohio convention, I am honestly disappointed that I can’t go.  It’s always been my best con for sales.  Well, it’s not really the case that I can’t go, per se, but without an Artist Alley table, there really isn’t much point.  Sadly, anime conventions really don’t have anything that interests me that much anymore.  I don’t watch many of the new shows, and there’s so much teenager insanity that I’m perfectly happy sitting behind a table and getting paid to draw for three days instead.  I’ve tried my hand at staffing as well (this is my last year staffing for AP) and I find I’m much happier in Artist Alley.  It’s also the place I need to be to promote my comics.

This is going to be a big year.  I’m entering the work force, I’m dedicating more time than ever to my comics, and I’m building towards financial independence.  There is a lot to do.  Bring it!

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who is starting to feel this way about anime cons. Cons like AP are great since the panels that they offer are relevant to my interests unlike Ohayocon. My last Ohayocon was two years ago and I left convinced that they don’t have much more to offer me. Which is too bad since I really used to love Ohayocon.
